AUTHOR'S NOTES:
B'Shan the dervish is one of the best heroes you can get at the start of the game. Not because of his fighting skills or the fact that he is an archer, but because he is free and he contributes 10 gold to your bank account each turn! Since he only has a hiring cost of 100 gold, and a maintenance of 0, he will pay for himself in 10 turns, and every thing after that is gravy! B'Shan can really make a difference at the start of a game where every gold piece counts and you are often losing money each turn.
As far as a fighter or an archer, he is nothing to be impressed with. But I would strongly suggest picking him up at the start of the game, and then disposing of him once you are making enough gold on your own.
